Precautions
The full effect of Pamelor may not be felt until after several weeks. Stay on track through the prescription period when taking this medication. To be sure, consult with your doctor if you think that the drug has no effect on your treatment.
The most common side effect caused by the drug is dizziness. This side effect when combined with other factors such as alcohol, fever, other anti-depressant drugs can be very debilitating to the muscle reflex. That is why operation of serious machineries and driving must be avoided after taking the medication especially when feeling dizzy. The drug also causes a patient to be extra sensitive of sunlight or hot weather so exposure to the sun and bright lamps are not advised. Patients can avoid this by using sunscreens or by wearing protective clothing. Avoiding too much activity and staying away from direct heat will avoid a heat stroke attack.
There are people who cannot properly manage the side effects and are unaware of the dangers of the combination of these side effects with other factors. The best thing to do when under prescription of the drug is to rest for a couple of minutes until after the side effects have subsided.
The drug has been found to cause harm to the unborn fetus. If you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, first discuss this possibility or your present condition with your physician. The patient must be informed of the risks of taking the drug while pregnant or becoming pregnant midway during the treatment. Note that the drug can also appear in the excretions of the breast milk.
